Thanks to the MONITOR project and the new generation of Galileo navigation satellites we can have a real time control of the territory, infrastractures and dangerous areas.
16 international partners (enterprises, universities and public organizations) of 4 European countries have carried out this outstanding project aimed at the safety and security of the territory, civil infrastructures and building areas. MONITOR is based on the newest Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) like Galileo, the European navigation satellite system under construction. On September 2004 Galileo Joint Undertaking (GJU) has called for a bid of the EU's 6th Framework programme focused on developing transport applications (rail, road, maritime, aviation) and special applications like environmental protection and civil engineering. MONITOR Project starts on November 2005, with the main goal to develop an Earth-Space system for the environmental surveying and civil engineering to improve the safety and security of territory, buildings and sites.
MONITOR is a real turning-point in the environmental monitoring.
Thanks to the improved precision and reliability of Galileo - and the other new GNSS - MONITOR provides a real time control of even small ground movements, precise positioning of machinery and workers inside critical sites.
For the first time a satellite driven system can seize any disaster precursor, following the evolution and supporting the rescue. Pagnanelli Risk Solutions Ltd has been one of the international partners involved.
