The 13th International Space Insurance Conference on space activities and their relevant insurance implications was held in Stresa on the 14th and 15th April, 2005.
Countries represented were 25. Delegates were around 350 coming from the main space agencies, manufacturers of launchers and spacecraft, users, as well as legal and financial firms together with representatives of the main insurance and broking companies. The speakers were 43, divided into panels made up of: Risk and Finance Managers, Space Agencies and Satellite Operators, Lawyers and Investors, Brokers, Insurers and Reinsurers, Manufacturers and Launch Providers.
The theme of this year's Conference was "How can Finance and Insurance better facilitate the development of Space Activities?".
Each panel presented topics which were widely discussed among the members themselves and with the audience. The discussions focused in particular on how privatization of space activities could be sustained, on how the insurers and brokers could work together with the clients to produce adequate policy wordings, simplify the claims handling procedures and on how insurance could possibly mitigate the level of premiums through a better risk assessment. Special attention was given to the presentation of the privately funded SpaceShipOne operations.
It was suggested that the setting up of an International Committee involving insurers, clients, lawyers, brokers, etc..., should be made to provide opportunities for common discussions on issues of mutual interest (clauses, procedures, etc..).
At the end, it appeared that a vast consensus had been reached on the need for better transparency and cooperation among the several parties involved. Finance and Insurance feel to be fully responsible in their task to help in the development of Space activities.
According to the overall comment of the audience, this year Conference was the best ever!

17th Intenational Space Conference - Hotel Parco dei Principi, Rome, 8, 9, 10 May 2013
“The Impact of Space Weather and Space Exploitation on Modern Society: Hazards’ Forecasting, Prevention, Mitigation and Insurance at International Level”.

Man-made hazards such as space debris, jamming/hacking of signals, cyber terrorism, and their influence on satellites performance, have been discussed at the previous 16 International Space Conferences. These issues and others will continue to be considered and monitored also in this year’s Conference; however, the economic and social impact of ‘Space Weather’ on our modern society, massively dependant on technology and space systems, is attracting more and more attention and concern at various levels for its great and potentially catastrophic effects: this hazard will be the highlight of the 17th International Space Conference.
